National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility of Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship or both, for Indian Universities and Colleges.
Until June 2018, the NET was conducted by CBSE in 84 subjects at 91 cities across the country. Thereafter from December 2018 onwards, the UGC- NET is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

UGC-NET is conducted twice every year usually in the months of June and December.
You can do anything you wish to with proper guidance and hard work. The nature of exam is such that it seeks to test the analytical understanding of the students with objective MCQ questions.
Qualifying NET means you are eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor.
The candidates who qualify for the award of JRF are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject.
The validity period of the offer will be three years w.e.f. the date of issue of JRF Award Letter.
Yes, but you must complete Master degree within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks.

There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.
However, if you wish to apply for JRF, then your age should not be more than 30 years. A relaxation of upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Transgender categories and to women applicants.
As a thumb-rule, for General Category, Cut-off for JRF in commerce is 65±3% and for NET in commerce is 58±3%. Cut-off for EWS, SC and ST category is slightly lower.

35% aggregate marks for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD and Third gender candidates.
The number of candidates to be qualified (total slots or Eligibility for Assistant Professor) shall be equal to 6% of the candidates appeared in both the papers of NET.
